Problem.
Just before i was going to start my filiming one of my models have dropped out last minuet. It has took me a while to find another female character. But i have finally got one to take part in my production. To over come this problem i am going to re-story board a few of my shots and get them to sign the model release forms so i can prove i have their permission. I will fill out more call sheets to show my new character. But i will also keep the old call sheets on as it shows i have had a problem and over come it.

Researching for my Script.
A my genre of the film is a Rom Com, i want to search the meaning of love on the interent. I want the voice over to tell the story of the two main characters falling in love.

Here are some words i have found from researching. I will use the apporpriate language for my script. I wanted strong words to describe love, so it gets the message and feeling across to the audience.

Changes to my Reece.
There have been a few changes i have made to my reece. I have had a few problems for the location ' Saltburn Beach'. As the weather has become colder and wetter over the past few weeks, my scene is supposed to be a sunny, dry hot day set at the beach. Also my characters are finding it hard to get there for financial difficulties and transport. Another problem is the only times i can get there is after college hours and it starts to get darker each night and i need the shots to be set in the day time. So to over come this problem, I am going to be setting it in the autum time, cold, dark nights, romantic walks in the park with the leaves falling etc. Hopefully it will get across to the audience that autum can also be romantic as well as a summer romance. I will get this across to the audience by making more close up shots and closer framing to make the characters look and feel cosy and warm. I will be using brighter but in contrast with darker colours such as reds, oranges, black and browns.
Music.
As we are now not allowed to use music which has already been produced. I have chosen my friends band, to sing my chosen song i wanted, Sweet Disposition- Temper Trap.
They are going to make the backing track them selves as they all have the right professional equipment to do so. I will then edit it in garage band to make it fit with the correct time to my trailer. I like this idea better because now the song is going to be more unique. The band have been singing for over a number of years, they really enjoy performing and singing. They has also performed in a lot of productions taking the roll in the main parts which included a lot of singing and acting. So i thought they would be right for this part, I asked there permission if they would like to sing for the backing track of my teaser trailer and the band agreed and was really excited about doing it. It feels better than I'm making more of an impact in the music as the music is one of the main parts which puts the feelings across more for the audience.
SWEET DISPOSITION- TEMPER TRAP.

The Temper Trap are a alternative rock band from Melbourne. The song Sweet Disposition was used in a TV ad for Chrysler and Diet Coke in 2010, 'At Worlds End' The song came out at the beginning of august.

Institutional logos and music.
The examiner board has warned us about the particular type of music we tend to include in our product. We are not allowed to use any music which has already been produced and copyrighted, even if we have been given permission to use their music. Also the Examiner will be marking us on the use of sound used in our trailer so to overcome this problem i will be producing my own music, either on garage band or another product i could use on the mac computers. I know a few people which produce their own music so i may get in contact with them to see if they can perform and record the song i wanted in the first place, as the song i chose (sweet disposition- temper trap) matches in with the trailer, it has meaning and thought. And this was how i was going to get the meaning across to the audience, as the lyrics in the song ' a dream, a laugh, a kiss..' is exactly what the film is intending to be about.
The institutional Logos.
As well as the music being our own, the images we use for our logos have to be our own. We can use images off the internet but changes MUST be made to make the product our own and un-copyright. I will be doing this by showing my skills on photoshop to make my logos look more presentable and professional.

researching for my institutional logos.
FONTS.
Here is a picture from Photoshop which i have developed. I have chosen four different texts i liked off the website 'www.dafont.com' (below). There is a range of unique qualities to each font. Number one font is very formal and reminds me of roman writing. Font number two looks like the letters are made out of a film strip, i like this one because it will realte to the film trailer i am making and it looks professional and exciting. Font number three is small and interesting. You can obviously make the text bigger and change it around but i like how tight and together this text is formed. Its in italics and it looks very professional and script like. And font number four is really effective, i like how it looks scribbled. I think it would stand out on the page compared to the other three.
LOGOS.
I have developed a few different institutional logos. Here are some of the first draft ones i have produced. I have produced a few because i wasnt sure on the style I was going for.

I have developed and edited some of the above images to the best of my ability.

Here is the first stage i have made for my logo for my film title. And below is how I've produced it into further detail. I have chosen the black and white clouds to be behind the word 'one', because it's representing how dull and sad it is just to have one shot at love. And the word 'love' has colour added to it and the colour is back in the sky, this represents the happiness of love.

As i have been looking through different Rom Com trailers i have started to realise that the film name logos themselves are very simple but effective. Here are a few examples from the genre of romantic comedies.

As i have noticed this i might change my logo for 'one love' as i think i've added too much detail and it looks messy and un-organised. i simply might add a black background and colour my writing so it stands out more. I have looked at horror genre trailers and their logos are more effective and detailed. I think this is because they have to give a more scary effect in the writing as to their trailer. Rom Coms tend to put more emotion into their trailer rather to the writing, The text is normally quite girly and simple so it is easy to understand. I will still use the same font as i like the style of the 'scribble' effect but i will edit it to the best of my ability to make it look more for a romantic comedy genre.
Final Cuts for my logos.
I have encorporated my final logos focusing on my specific genre of Romantic Comedy. This is why I have chosen the coloue scheme and how plain and simple I have created my logos and film titles.

Reece.
Bench over looking Barnard Castle.

Everytime i see this location it takes my breath away. It gives the audience the view of British land. I like how much greenery there is and it looks over loads of houses and the sites of Barnard Castle. This setting will be used for a lot of detail in the film as this is where the couples favourite spot is. I intend to access this location on the 5/10/10. The bench will be used a frequent number of times, shots will be filmed at night and in the day time. I will be using natural light, hopefully the sun will be out so the sun will be reflecting off the characters. The sound around them will be quite quiet, maybe some rustling of the threes and the sound of wind. There are a couple of hazards for this location:
> The bench is near a drop, so students may fall down if there not careful.
> if there is any glass or sharp objects on the floor students may hurt them selfs if they manage to stand on it or fall.
Field.

This field is behind the bench. It will be used for when the couple goes for picnics and just a nice walk. The dangers of this location is it is quite high up so we have to careful not to fall over the edge.
Saltburn Beach
I have chosen this location becuase I wanted to give the audience a romantic feeling. A feeling that all girls want to feel. A 'Summer Romance' I thought the beach would be a good idea as its different just to shoots being set in houses etc. I will be using natural light, hopefully the sun will be out so the sun can reflect on the characters instead of powered light. This will be the setting where the characters first meet each other and they go back and reflect on their memories. The sound will be from the waves and the people around to give it a summery and welcoming feeling. There are a few hazards which might occur here. As there is the sea near where the shooting will take place students might fall in or might not be able to swim. There are quite a few rocks so there might be some loose ones and rocky ones and they might fall and injure them selfs. There are a few quirky feautures i like at the beach, which is the pear which i will set my first shot there. There is one problem with this beach, I need it to be dry and sunny weather and also transport there and cost is limited.

Teeside Media Work Shop.
12.10, we set off to Teeside Universtiy for a Media Work Shop. The aim of the trip was to learn and to get a new expierence to use the cameras which we need to use for our teaser film trailer. Also we looked at final cut pro to help us learn how to edit our video footage.
Using the Camera...
What i learnt. The tripod has three clips that holds the legs together at the bottom, unclick them and they extend out. When putting the camera firmly onto the top of the tripod, it will click as you slide it on. We learnt that there is a button on the camera that acts like a huma eye (the iris) you can adjust it and what you see on the camera screen is what your own eye should see in real life. There is also a button called the filter which should be on number two when you are shooting scenes outside as it produces natural light, it acts as sunglasses. If shooting inside you need to lower the filter to zero or one. When zooming into a object you need to focus on it by twisting the first wheel on the lense of the camera, if you change the shot of the object you have to zoom back into the object and re-focus the shot. The bubble has to be level so when you pan and tilt the camera doesnt jerk and as you pan it will pan smoothly and the image on the screen will be framed correctly. The camera has its own memory and if you dont do the white balance right then all the colours on the screen will get miked up. There is a wheel you click round until you get ACD on your screen and then point the camera to a white wall, or white tee/shirt, or a white piece of paper etc and hold the wheel in and it will then get all of the right colour ready for shooting.
Sound.
When recording sound as well as a video, using a gun mic will help a lot with the sound. You have to postion the gun mic to the object you want to hear. It doesnt look very perfessional if you see it in shot so make sure you keep it at a distance but a good distance so you hear the person talking. Also the gun mic is good for sound effect for e.g. a door shutting, phone ringing, footsteps. All you have to do it move the mic down to the object and either slam the door or walk to get the sound you want. The gun mic cuts our all of the wind so its really clear. There is also another mic so you can hear everything else going on for e.g. if someone is talking. On Final Cut Pro if you have used the gun mic for sound effects you can over lap it by using lots of different layers.

Editing.
(above) The thing i learnt best on final cut pro was layering. It interested me how you could add pictures, music, and a video all at the same time. If you are just watching one person talking for 20 mins, you are going to get very bored so adding images to the relevant topic they are talking about will interest the audience and also to add music or sound effects. You can change the volume of the sound, as the character or person is talking, make the music quiter but then louder as it goes off subject or onto a picture etc. If you are making a dramatic film trailer the filters you could use to make the audience get the feeling of gloomyness, you could make the shots black and white or just make the brightness darker.
When producing my trailer i will do test shots before i capture the right one. I will have to get my focus right before i shoot anything as it could be blury or disorentated.

Costume and Make-up.

Here are two pictures of me shopping for some costumes in the British Red Cross. I wasnt planning on buying anything i was just looking for ideas on the style i wanted to create. The style is going to be vintage but very simple. For boys i would like them to be wearing a simple logoed polo top prefibly a navy or burgendee or black and a cardigan with jeans and plimsoles. For the Homosexual character i would like him to wear tighter tops and more brighter coloured just to make some contrast from the other two male characters.
Here is the main characters best friend in the film.

The colours are dark and vintage. I wanted to give the characters a 1960's look with the style and colours. Adam is wearing a Ralph Lauren burgendee polo top with bage trousers, plims and navy blue cardigan (bottom). The other outfit is his more formal clothes.(insert image of jess)
I have chosen my female character to wear this outfit as it is iconic to my genre of film (Romantic Comedy.) She is wearing it to construct representation of specific social groups i.e. girls aged 12-24. I want her outfit to be casual but sophisticated. As my target audience is aimed at mostly women I wanted her to make my character as a role model to look up to. Not a steretypical female which are nearly alwasy situated in Romantic Comedy films.
Here is a picture of the costume the main character is going to be wearing in some shots. His clothes are plain and dark coloured as this connotes his saddness in the film. I have based my male character on the one in (500) Days of Summer- Tom. The costume which he is wearing is ironic to my specific genre as male's in Rom Com's are represented as a 'sexual' like character which women like to look at.
This is another picture of the main protagonist. These are just his simple every day-day clothes. For his formal clothes he will be hopefully wearing a checked shirt with dark coloured jeans and plims.
Again here is two more pitures of the homosexual character. I have chosen a leather jacket to emphasise on his feminity, as the white tee shirt underneath is quite tight. but the last picture connotes his happiness in the film and trying to impress adam. With the bright pink shirt. The colours really stand out. This represents certain social groups which I wanted to put across to the audience. I want the female target audience to connect with the gay character so i made him fun and to wear fashionable but camp cloths to make him stand out.

My letter to the Music Idustry.
Dear Copy Right Holder,
I am an A level student and I am writing to request your permission to use one track from the latest album by 'The Temper Trap' entitled "Conditions".
The track I wish to use is "Sweet Disposition", track 3 on the album. With your permission this track would be used in my current A-Level Media Project, acting as a soundtrack, this involves creating a Film Trailer, as well as producing a poster for the film and a film magazine cover.
If I received your permission this track would be viewed by my peers, teachers and the OCR exam board, it would also be uploaded to a public video website in order for it to be embedded into my personal blog for research and planning.
The Artist and your Company would be fully recognised throughout pre-production and the final trailer itself. A copyright notice, with wording supplied by you can be included in the records of the project. If this is required, please send full details.
Yours Sincerely
Emily Cunliffe

Logos and Titles.
I have made a video to show my sketches of my logos and titles. I have desgined them from scratch but searched for fonts to get ideas from. I have made the main film title in colour to make it stand out more than the other logos. Romantic comedy film titles are normaly very simple and natural colours. i thought i would add some calm music in the background of this video becuase i want my trailer to create a calm effect when watching it.
Flat Plans.
My flat plan for my film magazine front cover.

Unfortunatly these flat plans dont look very clear.
The masthead is 'THE VOICE' the logo to go with this is a picture of a mouth I thought this would be a good contrast seen as though the media is always talking about different celebrities in magazine's. This refers back to my initial target audience which are female. Now female like to talk and find out gossip and I wanted to make my magazine like this, but to try not to make it too much of a 'gossip' magazine and more a 'film'. My tag line is "the magazine's biggest mouth" and that is featured just under the masthead. I thought of this tag line as i was doing my audience research they told me that they liked a magazine to have a lot of gossip and interesting facts about film celebrities etc, espically women. So i encorpurated my own tag line to try and sell the magazine. I could do with some work on the font style of my text as it's plain and simple, I want to make it more feminine but to also target males as well but as much. So I'm going to stick with the colour shceme of red, black and white; as they aren't feminine colours or male. I could also do this by creating a more modern font on photoshop or scanning in my own font and adding changes to it later on in the process. The main Protagonist is framed on the left hand side with his arms corssed this provides so narrative information. By framing the main male character on the left hand side we know straight away that he has power in the narrative, but i have tried to leave a little white open space and framed a little to the right as well to suggest he might loose some power over another character. The background is going to be simple, either white or grey, but I want no props or effects added to it, I dont want it to look too busy. This will resemble my genre as logos and titles in professional Romantic Comedy Film's are very simple with a plain background. Framed on the right hand side of the page is the other two characters. Taigh's friend and Jess's gay friend. I want it to come across to the audience that they are looking at Taigh and over looking his life. Maybe Taigh is fed up as he will have his arms crossed in the actual picture. So one of them will be either looking at him and the other at the camera. If this doesnt work i think i might just have a medium shot of the mian protagonist- Taigh eith looking away from the character to provide some narrrative information and make the audience think he is shy, or hiding something. The logo of the film is featured in the middle of the page for the audience to reconise it and remember it. I have made the logo the same colour as the film title to make people reconise that it is a Romantic Comedy film magazine.
First Copy of Film Poster.

This is the first flat plan i did of my film poster. I wasn't sure how i was going to set it out so i looked at, "500 days of sumer", "Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging" and "Dear John". They were all quite simular. So i decided to take a few aspects from each one.
Second Flat Plan of Film Poster.
(pic of poster)
Here I have included the female protagonist as well as the male. I wanted them to be framed on the left hand side as they look together. They are smiling and almost laughing. This provides narrative information as it shows that they are at a point where they are happy and maybe forgetting the bad things which are about to happen. In Rom Com's a girl usually falls in love with the boy and can never let go. But using the binary oposition it's the other way around. I wanted the colours to be bright and vibrant. My colour scheme goes with the representation of the social groups as females. My logo is going to be a dust pink instead of a blue as i thought the blus presented the film more to males. Presenting to logo 'One Love' in pink colour font will put across to the audience which specific genre I have aimed my trailer at. From looking at professional examples of specific Rom Com genre film posters they all include film credits, normaly situated at the bottom of the poster. I realised that the main things they include are, actors, actresses, music, director, producer, hait and make up, costume desginer, special effects and most imporantly the release date. I have made my release date in a different colour to make it stand out so people can realise exactly when it is coming out. I want it the same colour font as the film title so it represents the rom com genre. I think the colours used reflect the mood of the reality looks I want my product to look like.

Unfortunatly these flat plans dont look very clear.
The masthead is 'THE VOICE' the logo to go with this is a picture of a mouth I thought this would be a good contrast seen as though the media is always talking about different celebrities in magazine's. This refers back to my initial target audience which are female.

Storyboard

Shot One.
Lasts 2.5 seconds. Its a close up of my institutional logo i have made, 'ACTION PRODUCTIONS'. The Sound track i am going to use is Sweet Disposition- The Temper Trap. The Dialogue which will start straight away, will be a deep male voice presenting the logos and telling the story through the film trailer. I want the colours to be simple, but to match the logo i have made for the name of the film.
Shot Two.
Lasts 2.5 seconds again. The shot is a close up again of a logo saying 'Presents...' i thought i would include this writing because in the other trailers i have viewed a few of them present the logos first. all the sound and dialogue will be the same as in the first shot.
Shot Three.
Lasts
3 secs. This shot lasts a bit longer as its the main film title.

Audience Research, Secondary Research
I set up my own facebook media focus group. I asked a range of questions so my audience could answer them. The friends i have on facebook are aged 15-30 so this is what im basing my target audience on. http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/group.php?gid=138152336215665&ref=ts This is a link to my focus group. Here some examples of the question i asked people..
1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYuKxAspH1A
Does this film trailer appeal to you?
What do you think the target audience is for this film?
What do you like in this trailer?
for e.g. shots,editing,logos,narrator,music,colour etc.
2.what colour scheme would you use?
how should the text and images be laid out?
do you think it should include crtic's views of the film?
do you think this is a good example of a film poster?

This tabel here is for 'Sex and The City Movie'. The first thing i realise in the tabel is that form the ages 4-14 none of that catagoary have gone to see it. This has something to do with the rating of the film which is a 15. The second thing i realise is that 81% of the public who went and watched this film were female. So this film is obviously aimed at females but the other 19% which were males, proberly got dragged there by their girlfriends. 15-24's got a 36%, this shows the younger generation go to the cinema more than 35-44's. When i choose the target audience for my film this will help me a lot to choose it as this tabel shows the younger generation enjoy going to the cinema more than the older generation. In contrast to this 45+ got a whoping 22% which is more than the 35-44's. So some humour will have to relate to older females.

This tabel is from '(500) Days of Summer'. (tabel to come)
I love how in (500) Days of Summer, 'its not a love story its a story about love.' This is exactly how i want my trailer to be, not a lovey dovey love story but a story about someones life and how they may or may not fall in love. The time period they are in has encourage me to use it in my trailer, as i wasn't certain before, but now i think it looks really effective. The clothes they wear and the hairstyles etc are really creative. But i also want to include some modern features in their some how as well. In the trailer of (500) days of summer, i really like the close up's of Summer's face, to get the message accross to the audience that she is beautiful. And the change in music when Tom is happy, he dances to his favourtie song down the street and when he and her aren't happy the music either slows down/changes/or stops. Also the colour darkens and makes it look more gloomey. So It makes the audience been put in their prespective. For my trailer i want a very small amount of dialouge but a lot of over voice to tell the story instead of the characters. But when my target audience watch my trailer i want them to be drawn in and be thinking 'awww i want a love like that' or something along those lines. So i need the right music, setting, costume etc. Dear John also inspired me for my setting, even though Dear John is set in america i would love some of my trailer to be set at a beach, maybe where they first see each other?
Further more I went and looked at the UKtribes website. I decided to make my own prezi on UKtribes. Some of the information will be from the website, but in my own words, however most of it will be what i think. I have used my own pictures of my friends and myself to try and show you the different trends. Also i have shown you a range of celebrities in the trends i have wrote about.
